Market Drayton ASHP and Roof

CIF-funded roof and heating system replacement works at Market Drayton, Shropshire.

Market Drayton ASHP and Roof

In December 2024, WGM submitted a number of CIF Bids for a multi academy Trust in the Shropshire area. In June 2025, WGM were pleased to discover that three of the bids had been awarded funding by the DFE.

The jobs included the replacement of a significant portion of the roof. And full-scale replacement of the existing heating system inclusive of the distribution.

Challenges faced: Owing to narrow corridors and low ceilings, the new heating distribution had to be run externally, along the flat roofs. The problem: the roofs above had received funding to be replaced.

A further challenge was the safe removal of a significant amount of Asbestos which had to be completed prior to undertaking works to some key areas of the project.

The solution: Each programme had to be significantly adjusted to ensure that the two contractors could work side by side. After a few well-planned meetings and some adjustments in design the programme of works was finalised to allow each contractor to start works on time. To ensure CDM compliance the jobs were merged and one contract was selected as the main contractor and the other as sub contractor.
