Estates Strategy

WGM Building Consultancy provides specialist estates strategy advice to schools, academies and multi-academy trusts, helping education providers plan, manage and improve their buildings and facilities. A well-developed estates strategy provides a clear framework for understanding the condition, performance and future requirements of school properties, ensuring investment decisions support both educational objectives and long-term financial planning.

Our experienced building surveyors work with school leaders and estate managers to assess existing facilities, identify maintenance priorities and evaluate opportunities for improvement. Through building condition surveys, planned preventative maintenance assessments and capital expenditure planning, we help schools and academy trusts develop a comprehensive understanding of their estates and the investment required to maintain safe, functional and sustainable learning environments.

WGM can also support the development of long-term estate management plans, considering factors such as building suitability, future capacity, energy efficiency and funding opportunities. By combining technical building surveying expertise with practical strategic advice, we help education providers prioritise resources, manage property-related risks and make informed decisions that support the continued development of their education estates.

ESTATES STRATEGY

OUR PROCESS

The information we gather from the surveys will allow us to advise the trust on an Estates Strategy in line with your priorities. We would prioritise Health & Safety followed by M&E and Fabric elements to prevent school closures. The high-level document would include the following:

  1. Dovetail individual reports

    Dovetail all the individual reports to construct a Trust wide estate strategy that is accessible.

  2. Benefit realisation

    Benefit realisation that can be made and make recommendations to the Trust where required.

  3. Strategic planning support

    Work with the Central Senior Leadership Team to finalise the strategic plan for director’s sign off.

  4. Review and monitor

    Review the strategic plan with the Leadership Team annually to monitor progress, including risks.

  5. Budget advice

    Advice on budget costs and timescales for identified works detailed in the Estates Strategy.

  6. Efficient procurement

    Identify the most efficient and productive procurement route for each unique project.
